Use Your Remaining Insurance Benefits

Take Advantage of Your 2021 Dental Benefits While You Can

With the end of 2021 in sight, and not a moment too soon, it’s a good time to take stock of the dental insurance benefits you’ve used so far this year. Most dental insurance plans will see their benefit period end on Dec. 31, with a new one starting Jan. 1. That means that, unless you have benefits that roll over – which is rare –you have until the end of the year to maximize any unclaimed benefits.

Don’t Miss Out on Regular Cleanings

Dental insurance plans usually cover two routine cleanings and check-ups annually. If you’re only at one for the year and don’t have your second cleaning scheduled, now’s the time to get it on the calendar! And the sooner you can get it scheduled, the better – practices often get booked up around the holidays. Keep in mind that insurance plans often stipulate that regular dental cleanings be at least six months apart, so check to make sure your previous visit was sufficiently long ago.

Get Your Procedures Scheduled

In need of restorative dental work? Suspect you’re in need of restorative work? There’s still time to schedule a consultation or procedure. If you’re getting perilously close to your annual maximum, it may be possible to divide your treatment up between 2021 and 2022 so you can finish off your benefits for this year and then enjoy your new benefits for next year. There is a variety of procedures you can still plan to book by Dec. 31, including:

Do You Have HSA/FSA Funds Remaining?

If your plan includes a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA), there’s every possibility that you still have funds left to use by the end of the year. Even if you don’t have a procedure or cleaning to schedule, there are numerous products that might be eligible for your insurance benefits, including:
